Industrial Robotics skills assessment

Robotics technicians and engineers bring automation to production. This scorecard covers robot programming, safety, cell design, tooling, vision and maintenance.

  • 10 skills to score
  • 1–10 scale on every skill
  • 5 starting levels

The 10 Industrial Robotics skills you can score

These are the default Industrial Robotics skills in SkillScorer. Each one is scored from 1 to 10 for every technician, and you can edit, remove or add skills at any time.

  1. Robot Programming and Path Planning

Programs robots to complete tasks efficiently.

  2. Teach Pendant Operation and Coordinate Frames

Uses the teach pendant and coordinate frames to jog, teach and edit robot positions accurately.

  3. End-of-Arm Tooling and Grippers

Selects and sets up grippers and end-of-arm tooling suited to the product and cycle.

  4. Collaborative Robot Safety and Risk Assessment

Assesses risk for collaborative robots and applies force, speed and safeguarding limits that protect people.

  5. Vision Systems and Sensor Integration

Integrates vision and sensors so robots can locate, inspect and handle parts reliably.

  6. Cell Layout, Guarding and Safety Systems

Lays out cells and uses fencing, light curtains and safety controllers to prevent access to danger zones.

  7. Robot Maintenance and Calibration

Maintains robots, replaces consumables and recalibrates to keep positions accurate.

  8. Troubleshooting Cycle Time and Accuracy Problems

Investigates cycle time and accuracy losses and adjusts paths, speeds and tooling to correct them.

  9. Integration With PLCs and Production Systems

Connects robots to PLCs and production systems so they exchange signals and data correctly.

  10. Training Operators and Documenting Programs

Trains operators and documents robot programs and settings so they can be supported by others.

Levels included with Industrial Robotics

Industrial Robotics starts with 5 levels, which SkillScorer calls “Grade” for industrial automation & robotics, so technicians can be grouped and compared fairly. Rename, reorder or replace them at any time.

  • Technician
  • Robot Programmer
  • Senior Programmer
  • Robotics Engineer
  • Robotics Manager

How Industrial Robotics works in SkillScorer

Score

Each technician in a team is scored on the Industrial Robotics skills in the Skills Matrix: tap a cell, type a score, and it saves itself.

Compare

Rank technicians, compare two side by side, or compare your teams against each other to see exactly where the strengths and gaps are.

Track

Scores are kept year after year, so you can see who is improving and which Industrial Robotics skills need attention. Reports also follow each lead engineer's team.

Industrial Robotics scorecard: common questions

What skills does the Industrial Robotics scorecard include?

SkillScorer's Industrial Robotics scorecard covers 10 skills: Robot Programming and Path Planning, Teach Pendant Operation and Coordinate Frames, End-of-Arm Tooling and Grippers, Collaborative Robot Safety and Risk Assessment, Vision Systems and Sensor Integration, Cell Layout, Guarding and Safety Systems, Robot Maintenance and Calibration, Troubleshooting Cycle Time and Accuracy Problems, Integration With PLCs and Production Systems and Training Operators and Documenting Programs. Each one comes with a written description of what it measures, and you can edit, rename, remove or add skills to suit your organisation.

How are technicians scored in Industrial Robotics?

Every technician is scored from 1 to 10 on each skill (1 = Poor, 5 = Average, 10 = Elite), one team and year at a time. Scores autosave in the Skills Matrix, and the 18 built-in reports turn them into rankings, radar charts, skill gaps and year-on-year trends.

Which levels come with Industrial Robotics?

Industrial Robotics starts with these levels (called “Grade” in the app): Technician, Robot Programmer, Senior Programmer, Robotics Engineer and Robotics Manager. They are just a starting point, so you can rename, reorder or replace them.

Can I change the Industrial Robotics skills and wording?

Yes. The skills, levels and labels are all editable per organisation. In industrial automation & robotics the app talks about technicians, teams and lead engineers, and you can change any of those words too.
